Following on from rescuing little known British Asian antiracism activists, we come across the name Tony Soares. Although not a name that pops out for recognition in this area of activism, Soares was nevertheless a highly influential antiracist of Asian descent.
Mentioned by academic Anne Marie Angelo in her article "We all became Black". Angelo was fortunate to have interviewed Tony Soares a few years ago for her research. The Black Cultural archives holds 500 articles in the Tony Soares collection, with the majority concentration on his work for the Grassroots magazine and his involvement with Militant Black Politics. A combination of which got him in trouble with Special Branch police. My research looks at his collaboration with other organisations and individuals which helped his notoriety.
